If you are like me, you probably have a LOT of plastic containers and are continually dealing with the struggle of how to store them. If you look at otherblogs and tips on how to store your Tupperware most will say store your Tupperware with there lids on in an upright position. Now, that's all well and good but what if you don't have the space to store them that way?
I have a tiny kitchen, I'm talking shhhhmmmmaalllll and that means I ain't got no space for upright enclosed containers. I know there are some of you out there thinking,"Well do you really need that many?If you had less maybe you could fit them all" however my partner and I are food preparation demons, which means, come the start of the week you bet most of those containers are well and truly used. With that thought in mind, here are the three tips that have worked the best for me to keep my Tupperware neat and easy to access.
1) Stack like containers within each other, starting from the largest containers to the smallest. Fill the largest container at the top of your stack with smaller containers. That sounds simple enough, but I am AMAZED by how many people don't do this! The number of times I have seen someone throw a large plastic container on top of a small one on a weird right angle trying to shove everything on top of each other like some oddly balanced sculpture it's as if they have never played with building blocks in their life. Does no one remember Babushka dolls!? Stack large to small, like with like.
2) Periodically go through your Tupperware. I know this is probably the most mundane task on the to-do list, but it is quick to do and saves you so much time later looking for that lid you can't find! When you have a lazy Sunday with nothing to do and you are binge watching that latest Netflix show take out all your containers and check they have lids or bottoms. You will be surprised. I did this a couple of days ago and found a stray lid with no base. That may seem like a small thing but being thetype of personwho has a break down over one small thing out of placeI was amazed. A bottom breaks, a top goes missing, it happens, especially when you have a lot of containers. Check your containers intermittently, so you don't waste your time looking for a lid at 6am in the morning when you just want to take your left overs to work.
3) Lids. Lids are a pain in the arse they are the muffin bottoms of the container world, no one really wants them but you can't have one without the other. They don't stand up, they go everywhere, and they are the first things to go missing! There is a simple trick to keeping them in place. Choose your biggest container and stack all of your lids within itsideways, starting from the largest lid to the smallest. This way you can quickly pull the container out of the cupboard to find the lid you want. And there is no sliding all over your draw as they are contained.
There you have it! Three easy tips for storing your containers. It may not be rocket science, but it sure does work.
